I’ve always felt this to be true @ 01:32 pm
http://rusty-halo.com/wordpress/?p=2840 I always figured that if I were to be a character in a story I’d be one of the random ones that gets killed off early without anyone noticing.
Your results: You are An Expendable Character (Redshirt) | An Expendable Character (Redshirt) |
| 75% | | Jean-Luc Picard |
| 65% | | Spock |
| 52% | | Deanna Troi |
| 50% | | Geordi LaForge |
| 45% | | Will Riker |
| 40% | | Data |
| 27% | | Leonard McCoy (Bones) |
| 25% | | James T. Kirk (Captain) |
| 20% | | Uhura |
| 20% | | Worf |
| 20% | | Mr. Scott |
| 5% | | Chekov |
| 5% | | Beverly Crusher |
| 5% | | Mr. Sulu |
| 0% |
| Since your accomplishments are seldom noticed, and you are rarely thought of, you are expendable. That doesn’t mean your job isn’t important but if you were in Star Trek you would be killed off in the first episode you appeared in.

Fandom Meme @ 04:36 pm
http://rusty-halo.com/wordpress/?p=2776 goldy_dollar wrote a nifty little fandom meme. It’s one of those how-well-do-you-know-me things, but I’m just doing it as a normal meme; feel free to gack.

Buffy Quote Meme @ 01:21 pm
http://rusty-halo.com/wordpress/?p=2704 My entire friendslist has been swarmed with Buffy quotes. So, okay, here’s my favorite line of the series:
“Timothy Dalton should win an Oscar and beat Sean Connery over the head with it!”
- Andrew to Warren in “Life Serial”
This was funny the first time because of the outraged and sincere way Andrew says it, plus, dude, Timothy Dalton??? And it’s funnier now because after seeing most of the Bond films, Timothy Dalton surprised the hell out of me and might actually be my favorite Bond.
Second place would be the whole Spike/Joyce hot chocolate scene in “Lovers Walk”:
The kitchen at the Summers house. Joyce picks up the teakettle from the stove and takes it over to the island, where she pours some into a cup for Spike to make hot chocolate.
Spike: So I’m strolling through the park, looking for a meal, and I happen to walk by, and she’s making out with the chaos demon! And so I said, ‘You know, I don’t have to put up with this.’ And she said, ‘Fine!’ So I said, ‘Fine, do whatever you like!’ I mean, I thought we were going to make up, you know.
Joyce: (sits across from him) Well, she sounds very unreasonable.
Spike: She is. She’s out of her mind. (sniffs) That’s what I miss most about her. (smiles)
Joyce: Well, Spike, sometimes even when two people seem right for each other, their lives just take different paths. When Buffy’s father and I…
Spike: (interrupts) No, this is different. Our love was eternal. Literally. (calms down) You got any of those little marshmallows?

Saturday is still TWO WHOLE DAYS AWAY! *must kill time* @ 02:11 pm
http://rusty-halo.com/wordpress/?p=2625 * They found the lost scenes from Metropolis! I cannot wait to see this in the theater. The entire film! *squee*
* Biologist totally pwns creationist. Awesome.
* I’ve been listening non-stop to PJ Harvey, Portishead, Hole, Jack Off Jill, Tapping the Vein, Juliette and the Licks, Garbage… pretty much anything edgy with a female vocalist. PJ Harvey’s early stuff is so raw and amazing, and Portishead Live at Roseland is the best live CD I’ve ever heard. (I bought their new one but um, switched back to Live at Roseland after about two listens.)
* I just checked fandom_wank and, wow, I knew there was a reason I’d taken doctorwho and ihasatardis off my flist. Sheesh. And this is just the lead-up; god only knows what wankstorm the finale will unleash.
* I’ve been so absurdly busy this week that I still haven’t had a chance to re-watch “The Stolen Earth.” I’ve seen it once, in two parts with ten hours in between, while exhausted and drunk off my ass, and with a friend screaming in my ear every two minutes. I think I might skip Coney Island tomorrow and stay home to watch Doctor Who again. Yes, I know, I’m weird. But I haven’t had a day to myself since last Friday, and I need to recharge before my Doctor Who finale party on Saturday. (I have friends coming after all! Woohoo!) And I need to make more cupcakes… I’m thinking Rum Raisin and another batch of Banana Split….
* This day in LJ history:
* 2007: I was listening to the new Velvet Revolver album and getting excited for the upcoming Velvet Revolver/Alice in Chains tour.
* 2006: I was (BIG SURPRISE!) bitching about an evil roommate who wouldn’t pay her rent and was mean to my cat. And I was excited to see Chemlab in DC the next day.
* 2005: I was in the grip of a horrible, horrible crush. This is about the time I developed my aversion to tequila. The less said, the better.
* 2004: I was going to see Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in IMAX over and over and over, squeeing about Remus and Sirius, re-reading the Harry Potter books, and looking forward to Writercon 2004.
* 2003: I was trapped on the cheap crappy crumbling CRUISE OF DOOM with my parents and brother, resolving never to vacation with my family ever again and desperately missing my Spike website. On the plus side, I was reading A Song of Ice and Fire for the very first time.

a fic rec and yet more Doctor Who babble @ 10:51 am
Current Mood: weird
Fic rec: A nifty Doctor and Donna adventure, Leap in the Dark by nonelvis. This is the kind of story that could easily be an episode. It uses time travel in an original way, plus has a really cool setting and great characterizations of the Doctor and Donna. *** Happy Birthday, jaydk! Tonight, we're going to see Patrick Stewart in "Macbeth." I am super excited. :) We had another Doctor Who night on Saturday, in which we watched: * ( the latest Torchwood )* ( more Old Who )* ( The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit )*** I'm finally finishing my re-read of Dorothy Dunnett's Queens Play. (I know, it's been months. I've been reading in tiny increments on the subway). And it finally hit me that ( spoiler for entire Lymond Chronicles )*** Also, ( a meme with a rather amusing result )

Movie meme part two @ 01:58 pm
Current Mood: bored
There were only two quotes from the movie meme that no one got. And they couldn't be from more opposite movies. I've seen people posting second quotes as hints, so let's try that. 3. Original quote: I've been going to this high school for seven and a half years. I'm no dummy. New quote: Actually, an exchange of dialogue... Character 1: He keeps putting his testicles all over me. Character 2: Excuse me? Character 1: You know, like octopus? Testicles? Character 2: Ohhhh. Tentacles. N-T. Big Difference. 17. This is one of the most quotable movies ever, so either my FL is woefully uneducated about film history, or I erred by picking the most obscure quote possible. Original quote: You'd be killing yourself to an empty house. The audience left twenty years ago. New quote: I am big. It's the pictures that got small. Anyone? ETA: They're Better Off Dead (guessed by writteninstars, harmonyfb, and kellyhk) and Sunset Boulevard (guessed by sp23 and harmonyfb). Thanks, guys! [ Cross-posted to InsaneJournal]

Guess the movie quotes @ 06:20 pm
Whee, that same exact meme that everyone else is doing. 1. Pick 15 of your favourite movies 2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie. 3. Post them here for everyone to guess. 4. Strike it out when someone guesses correctly, and put who guessed it and the movie. 5. NO GOOGLING/using IMDb search functions. Totally cheating, you dirty cheaters. ( Guess the quotes! )*** Also, more amusing proof that Torchwood consists entirely of old Buffy and Angel scripts mixed with fanfic.

I don't even know what I'm babbling about in this entry @ 06:17 pm
( this quiz is better than most - what's your dating persona? )Hmmm, pretty accurate. You'd absolutely refuse to date someone dumber than you, for instance. Also, a link to Stephen Colbert cracking up. Because you can never have too much Stephen Colbert. Also, what is this Atlanta Comics Expo in April? It's some spun-off part of DragonCon? Should I go? Thus far it seems that the only interesting guest is Voltaire, and I'm getting sick of stalking him. But I have been lamenting lately that DragonCon is so far away.... I like this article by Wil Wheaton about arcade video games. Reminds me of the Pizza Hut in Puerto Rico when I was nine; I'd get a mini-supreme pizza and a virgin pina colada and play Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as long as my mom would let me, with my brother and whatever random kids happened to be there at the time. Or the old Star Wars game at Showbiz Pizza Place when I was ... eight? and I thought it was the coolest thing ever that you could fly through the trench and blow up the Death Star, and Obi-Wan would say "the Force will be with you, always." *sigh* Wil Wheaton columns always seem to bring up nostalgic memories. Okay, one more quiz: ( this quiz is just silly - which classic dame are you? )

Current Mood: not panicking
Current Music: common rotation
I'm trying not to panic about the fact that All About Spike and SuperVegan are both down, because it's some mysterious server issue and there's nothing I can do about it. *deep breath* *not panicking* *rescinding all recommendations of Cybertarp hosting company* Also, there is a meme: Ask My Fandom OpinionAsk me one fandom-related question in the comments. This can be fandom specific, general, or about fandom/lj stuff/fic writing/etc. in general. Just one question, please, but it can (and perhaps should) have sub-parts. I probably don't have any fandom opinions that my friends don't already know, but whatever, let's see if anyone feels like asking anything. *** I watched " Sharpe's Revenge" last night. It's hard to enjoy that one; I just spend the whole thing cringing for Jane. ( babble about Sharpe's Revenge )I also watched a bit of " Extremely Dangerous." Yes, I finally caved and bought the movie. I was ambivalent at first, but I kept wanting to watch it again, and finally just decided that I needed my own copy. I'm glad I did, as it makes me very happy. The story is interesting, the characters are complex, and Sean Bean is just so damn gorgeous. I like how it takes its time and thoroughly establishes all the characters, and I enjoy that it doesn't talk down to its audience (though I wish it had captions, since a bunch of important stuff gets mumbled quickly and almost incomprehensibly). I like that Sean Bean gets to play a complex character, showing off his scary and menacing side, but also his vulnerable, sympathetic side. I liked this review very much: In Extremely Dangerous Bean is, does, or radiates something--I don't know what--that makes it so only his presence matters.... Unbelievable though it may sound, after you've watched him for hours, even seeing him play a few bars on the piano (though I suspect a stunt pianist's hands there) or taking out his contact lenses becomes erotic. D.A. Pennebaker was right when he said that watching somebody for hours through a camera is like falling in love with them--it's impossible to resist the power of such close scrutiny. Also, I decided to join the modern era and convert my LJ to a S2 style. Then I got bored halfway through. So it kind of looks stupid, but I'll make it pretty eventually.

Today is a wonderful day... It's Lucifer's birthday!!!! Eight years ago today, in the laundry room of my parents' house in New Jersey, Lucifer's mother Shadow (a beautiful, sweet black stray cat who I'd made friends with) gave birth to Lucifer and his three siblings. Lucifer was the second born (I have it on videotape) and his head got stuck coming out. We all thought he was going to die, but Shadow eventually pushed him out and started licking him, and finally he started making teeny little squeaking baby kitty noises that meant he was breathing. And ever since then, he's been the greatest cat ever. Sweet, fun, adventurous, but most of all-- cool. Being in Lucie's presence could calm anyone; he's just totally accepting and trusting and relaxed. I gave him a pile of treats for breakfast. I'll have to find something fun at Petco to bring home to him tonight. I took some photos of him the other day in the bathtub (trying to drink out of the faucet). I'll post those here later so you can all see how adorable he is. >:) ( Movie Meme )Last night I was working until 8pm and talking to my former coworker Sarah about "relationships." Interesting conversation. Sarah's awesome. Forgot to mention this: I watched two movies over the weekend, Velvet Goldmine and American Psycho. ( weird rant about Velvet Goldmine, American Psycho, Fight Club, and the emptiness of consumer culture )PS: Excellent thread over at the Hydrogen Board imagining a Chemlab/Pig tour. *sigh* If only. And I must say, I love it when the bands write their own slash fiction: petegala (here): If you go into the men's room between sets, you might just find Raymond and Jared making out in a stall. jared: and, in reference to Pete from the Cracknation board, Raymond and i would only be having sex in the bathroom if we could sandwich you. we've discussed it, and i call the south side of your street, honey. And it goes from there.... ("The Brokeback Techrat tour anyone?" "BROKE-DICK METRONOME" "Rivetback Mountain" "Tesseract Fountain"....) PPS: Did you guys watch the Daily Show last night? The Cheney thing actually didn't strike me as that funny when I first heard it, but when Jon got ahold of it, I thought I was going to die laughing. PPPS: Celebrate International Quirkyalone Day. (Great link; check it out.)
